Terms of Use

By accessing or using the Ìmọ̀dòtun AI platform ("the Platform") at https://imodotun-ai.aporaj.com, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, you must not use the Platform.

These Terms apply to all visitors, users, and others who access or use the Platform, including public visitors, registered admin users, and content contributors.

Ìmọ̀dòtun AI is a non-commercial, academic digital preservation platform operated by Ede Polytechnic, Ede, Osun State, Nigeria. Its purpose is to digitize, archive, translate, and make publicly accessible indigenous knowledge from Nigerian communities — including manuscripts, oral histories, research papers, and cultural documents.

The Platform is provided as a public academic service. It is not operated for commercial gain, carries no advertising, and charges no fees to contributors or visitors.

The public archive and AI tools on this Platform are available to all users worldwide without registration. By using the Platform, you represent that:

• You are at least 13 years of age, or accessing the Platform with the consent and supervision of a parent or guardian.
• Your use of the Platform complies with all applicable laws and regulations in your jurisdiction.
• You are not using the Platform to engage in any unlawful, harmful, or deceptive activity.

Admin accounts are restricted to authorised personnel of Ede Polytechnic and approved research collaborators. Admin access is granted at the sole discretion of the Platform's Super Administrator.

You agree to use the Platform only for lawful purposes and in a manner that does not infringe the rights of others or restrict their use of the Platform. The following are expressly prohibited:

• Reproducing, distributing, or commercially exploiting archived indigenous knowledge content without the explicit consent of the originating community.
• Using the AI translation or search tools to generate, spread, or amplify misinformation about Nigerian communities or indigenous cultures.
• Attempting to gain unauthorised access to admin accounts, the database, or any non-public areas of the Platform.
• Scraping, harvesting, or bulk-downloading archive content for commercial redistribution.
• Uploading malicious code, viruses, or any content designed to disrupt or damage the Platform.
• Impersonating any community, institution, or individual in connection with content submissions.
• Using the contact form or submission channels to send unsolicited commercial communications.
• Misrepresenting community consent in a manuscript submission.

Platform code and design: The Ìmọ̀dòtun AI platform software, design, and codebase are the intellectual property of Ede Polytechnic. Unauthorised copying, modification, or redistribution is prohibited.

Archived content: Manuscripts, research papers, and other knowledge materials archived on the Platform retain their original intellectual property rights. These rights belong to the authors, communities, or institutions that produced them — not to Ede Polytechnic or the Platform.

AI-generated translations: Machine translations produced by the Platform's AI tools are made available for personal, research, and educational use only. They may not be commercially redistributed without the consent of the source content owner and the originating community.

Attribution: Any use of content from the Platform — in research papers, publications, media, or other contexts — must include appropriate attribution to the original author, community of origin, and a reference to the Ìmọ̀dòtun AI archive.

We recognise that indigenous knowledge is held collectively by communities and is inseparable from their cultural identity, spiritual practices, and ways of life. These Terms reflect that recognition:

• Originating communities retain sovereignty over their knowledge at all times, regardless of what is published on this Platform.
• Publication on this Platform does not transfer ownership of any indigenous knowledge to Ede Polytechnic or any other party.
• Traditional Knowledge (TK) labels attached to archived content communicate the community's terms for access, attribution, and use. These labels are binding on users of this Platform.
• Content marked with a "TK Non-Commercial" label may not be used for commercial purposes under any circumstances.
• Content marked with a "TK Community" label is shared for educational and research purposes only, with the expectation of community attribution.
• If you are uncertain whether your intended use of archived content is permitted, contact us at info@atunra.edepoly.edu.ng before proceeding.

The AI tools on this Platform (translation, OCR, auto-categorization, semantic search) are provided for research, educational, and archival purposes. The following limitations apply:

• Translation quality: AI translations are not guaranteed to be perfect. For formal or legal use, machine translations should be verified by a qualified human translator. The Platform targets BLEU ≥ 25 and BERT ≥ 0.85 benchmarks but results may vary by language pair and content type.
• OCR accuracy: Text extracted from scanned documents may contain errors, particularly for handwritten or low-quality source materials. Confidence scores are provided as a guide.
• Categorization: AI-generated knowledge categories and TK label suggestions are reviewed by human editors before publication. Categories shown in live demo tools are indicative only.
• No professional advice: The Platform does not provide legal, medical, or professional advice. Information about traditional medicine or governance systems is archived for cultural documentation purposes only.

By submitting a manuscript or other material to the Platform, you confirm that:

• You have the authority to submit the material and have obtained documented consent from the originating community where required.
• To the best of your knowledge, the material does not infringe any third-party intellectual property rights.
• The information you provide about the material (title, author, community, language) is accurate.
• You grant Ede Polytechnic a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to digitize, archive, translate, categorize, and make the material publicly accessible on the Platform in accordance with the attached TK labels and community consent terms.

Submission of false or misleading information, or submission of material without proper community consent, is a serious violation of these Terms and may result in removal of the content and termination of any admin access.

Registered admin users are subject to these Terms plus any additional policies communicated by Ede Polytechnic. Specifically:

• Admin accounts are personal and non-transferable. Sharing login credentials is prohibited.
• Admins are responsible for all actions taken under their account.
• Admins must not abuse their access to the dashboard, user data, or uploaded content.
• Admin accounts may be suspended or terminated without notice if these Terms are violated.
• On leaving Ede Polytechnic or the project, admins must notify the Super Administrator immediately for account deactivation.

The Platform is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, express or implied. Ede Polytechnic does not warrant that the Platform will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses or other harmful components.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable Nigerian law, Ede Polytechnic and the Ìmọ̀dòtun AI project team shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Platform.

We are not liable for the accuracy of AI-generated translations, OCR outputs, or categorization suggestions, or for any decisions made on the basis of such outputs.

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the Platform shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Osun State, Nigeria.

We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will post a notice on the Platform homepage.

Your continued use of the Platform after the posting of revised Terms constitutes your acceptance of the changes.
